LeBron's girlfriend not thrilled with Miami

..LeBron's girlfriend not thrilled with Miami

By Garrett Downing, NewsNet5/WEWS-TV

A month has passed since LeBron James announced his decision to leave Cleveland for Miami, and his longtime girlfriend recently commented on the move.

Savannah Brinson, the mother of James’ two children, told Harpers Magazine that she was not initially thrilled with the move.

"Personally, Miami was not my favorite place. Vacationing there is great: You go for three days and get some sun, and it's time to go home," Brinson said in the interview. “It will definitely be an adjustment, but we'll make it. We're not complaining."

Brinson and James have dated since high school, and Brinson said that she plans to split her time between Akron and Miami.

During the interview, Brinson also talked about the idea of marriage, saying, "I would never rush him to do something like that. We're really comfortable with the way things are now. And it's not up to me. When it happens, it happens.”

Less than a month ago, billboards and signs posted between Cleveland and LeBron James's hometown of Akron implored him to stay.

Now one local marketing company wants to make sure James, who was born and raised in Akron, knows he may be welcome there, but he's no longer home.

A billboard says "Welcome Home LeBron," but there is a big red 'X' over home. The second line poses a question: "How does it feel to be a sidekick?," a reference to James' decision to join Dwayne Wade on the Miami Heat. Sidekick is underlined in red. The message then ends with "Go Cleveland!" in gold letters.

The Omada Group, a marketing company in Akron, paid $3,000 for the billboard, which is on Route 18 eastbound between I-71 and I-77, about two miles from James' estate in Bath. The billboard will be up for about a month.

Matthew Palumbo, one of the principals at the Omada Group, said he hopes the billboard sparks a grassroots campaign to let James know exactly where he stands in his home state since his decision to leave.

James is scheduled to return to Akron for his annual bike-a-thon charity event next weekend.

He could pass the sign on his way home from Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport.

Dwyane Wade: LeBron Didn't Quit on Cavs Playoff Run

MIAMI (AP) -- They've been teammates for only a week, and Dwyane Wade is already standing up for LeBron James.

Wade defended the NBA's two-time reigning MVP on Thursday, telling The Associated Press that James "didn't quit" on Cleveland during the playoffs. That was the accusation made by

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert last week, not long after James went on television to reveal he was leaving Cleveland for Miami.

"He's not a quitter," Wade said. "He didn't quit."

In an interview with The AP on July 8, Gilbert not only levied the quitting charge, but said James got "a free pass" for too long. The NBA fined Gilbert $100,000 earlier this week for some of his comments, with commissioner David Stern saying they were too extreme for the league's liking.

Wade said he watched every game in Cleveland's second-round series against Boston, the team that eliminated the Heat in the opening round of the postseason. The Celtics used a similar defensive scheme against James as they did against Wade to open the playoffs, throwing a slew of challenges in the way of both.

"LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant, guys like that understand what Boston's defense was about," Wade said. "Their defense was built on not letting one player beat them. You either settle for the outside shot or you pass to your teammates. LeBron had one bad game in the playoffs. Other than that, he did what he could do with the defense all watching him."

The Cavs lost to the Celtics in six games, but Wade pointed out that in the series finale, James finished with 27 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists.

Nonetheless, Gilbert told The AP, "watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar."

The Cavaliers were beaten by 32 points in Game 5, a stunning loss at home. During the game, James appeared distracted and disinterested, often glaring at Cleveland's coaches as the Cavs tried to foul to get back into the game in the second half. James also made some puzzling postgame comments, saying he had "spoiled" people with his play over seven seasons.

In that Game 5 loss to Boston, James scored 15 points on 3 of 14 shooting.

In Game 6 against Boston, even as now-former Cavs coach Mike Brown tried to get his players to foul as time was winding down, James appeared to wave him off, almost resigned that the season was ending and there was nothing Cleveland could do at that point. Gilbert also said he believes James quit on the Cavs in Game 6 of their series in 2009 against Orlando.

"I don't see where you can get where he quit," Wade said. "He just had one bad game. It happens. Kobe had a bad game in the finals. They won. It didn't matter. LeBron's teammates didn't help him out that game and it made the way he played even worse. But he's not a quitter. He didn't quit."

As James pointed out in his welcome-to-Miami event on July 9, Bryant made only 6 of his 24 shots in Game 7 of the finals against Boston, which his Los Angeles Lakers won anyway for their second straight NBA title.

"He knew he had help and guys came through for him," James said last week of Bryant's Game 7 showing in the finals.

James was the subject of countless jokes during Wednesday's ESPY awards, and Wade saw the humor in some of them. Others, however, had him bristling.

"You get defensive with things like that," Wade said. "He's a good friend. You understand people say it because it's a hot topic. They wanted people to react in a positive way or a negative way, just because it's a hot topic to talk about. It's a punch line. They just wanted to have something to do with it. They wanted to feel involved in some way."

LeBron Uses Newspaper Ad to Thank Akron, Not Cleveland

LeBron James placed a full-page advertisement in Tuesday's Akron Beacon-Journal to thank his "family, friends and fans in Akron," while making no mention of Cleveland.

This comes two days after Zydrunas Ilgauskas took out a similar ad in the Cleveland Plain Dealer to thank fans in Cleveland for their many years of support.

James' ad, which includes images of him at past events in Akron for which he's hosted, says "Akron is my home, and the central focus of my life. It's where I started, and it's where I will always come back to."

James is set to host his annual bike-a-thon in his hometown this weekend. He will hand out 400 bicycles to Akron-area children.

It is not known if the snub of Cleveland, where he played for seven seasons as a member of the Cavaliers, was intentional. James, who was a free agent, signed with the Miami Heat last month.

What follows is the complete text of LeBron's ad:

"To My Family, Friends and Fans in Akron:

"For all my life, I have lived in Akron -- and for that, I am truly a lucky man.

"It was here where I first learned how to play basketball, and where I met the people who would become my lifelong friends and mentors. Their guidance, encouragement and support will always be with me.

"Akron is my home, and the central focus of my life. It's where I started, and it's where I will always come back to. You can be sure that I will continue to do everything I can for this city, which is so important to my family and me. Thank you for your love and support. You mean everything to me.

(signed) LeBron"

Mark Cuban: Review Heat Free Agents' Signing

Mark Cuban: Review Heat Free Agents' Signing
Mavs' Owner Wants NBA to Examine How Miami Heat Got Big 3

.(CBS/ AP) Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says the NBA should examine how free agents LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade all ended up with the Miami Heat.

Cuban tells a group of reporters at the NBA's summer league in Las Vegas that he intends to ask the league's Board of Governors to inquire about the situation.

According to a story posted on the Cleveland Plain Dealer's website Sunday, Cuban says the league needs to develop more definitive rules governing the issue of player tampering.

"I’m going to bring it up to the league that we really do have to re-evaluate the issue of player tampering,” Cuban told the newspaper. "Who knows what will happen? But I have to suggest it to them because there has to be more definitive rules."

It’s not just the Cavs," he added. "It could be any team. It could be the Heat in a couple years. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. But there has to be a way to keep these guys away from each other for the last week anyway."

NBA owners are scheduled to meet Monday in Las Vegas.
